Students may visit the library any day of the week to return and check out books.
Students enter Sheridan school at 8:00. School begins at 8:10.
We begin our day with our class morning meeting. This is a fun time of the day where we greet each other, review our expectations for behavior, share news, learn about each other, and build our sense of community.
Every morning we have Daily 5, which is the structure of our reading lessons. Included in this time is direct reading instruction, read to self, word work, read-aloud, and small group instruction.
We take a recess break around almost every day.
We go outside for lunch recess at 11:50 and come in for lunch at 12:10.
Every day after lunch we have math. We use the curriculum from Engage New York. This program includes fluency practice, concept instruction with guided practice, and independent practice. We close each lesson with a review and share of our independent practice. This allows students to check their work, learn from mistakes, and share strategies with classmates. We also use Rocket Math to practice our multiplication facts.
Interspersed throughout our day are opportunities for writing, in addition to a structured writing instruction time.
Three days per week we also have science and social studies. We read a lot of content-area texts within our Daily 5 block.
School is dismissed at 3:05.
