The first week of school, 2016-2017
First Days of School: 2015-2016
Airplane Challenge: Students made a plan, tested, and then revised. How far will your airplane travel? How many paperclips can it carry?
Talking about our strategies for problem solving is an important part of math class.
Team Challenge: Students must speak up and work as a team to flip the paper while still standing on it. Full Value Agreement in effect!
We had a FABULOUS, FIT time at Shape Up Sheridan! Thank you, Crossfit Petoskey!!
Students enjoyed building a container that would safely deliver an egg to the hungry children in an isolated village. Did your egg survive the helicopter drop?
Dirt Makers field trip, made possible by the Little Traverse Conservancy...
We walked to the woods behind the college to learn about mushrooms, insects, and other creatures that help decompose nature's trash.

Our trip to the Emmet County Transfer Station was awesome! We learned how they collect, sort, and squish the recyclables. Then they send them off to factories to be made into new products. Recycling saves natural resources and it saves people money!
First Days of School: 2014-2015
Students play a "get to know you" game with the help of some M&M's.
The girls love the monkey bars!
Team building challenge
The challenge: Save the worm, Sammy, from drowning! His boat has capsized and he needs to put on his life preserver!
Even more challenging: You can only use a paper clip, you may not touch Sammy or his life preserver. Kids had so much fun working together to solve this problem. (Thanks, parents, for supplies!)

Flywheelers Field Trip
Students had a great time at Flywheelers! We learned about life in the past. The early 1900's were a much different time! Families faced many challenges while trying to survive here in Northern Michigan. One tool that often helped was the flywheel! We learned how this tool helped them make clothing, saw boards, remove corn kernels, chop corn stalks, and thresh wheat.
"Dirt makers" field trip
We learned all about decomposers!

Shape Up Sheridan
Team Building Challenge
Fourth graders were challenged to move the cups from one stacked position into a pyramid, using only a rubber band tied to yarn.
Halloween Fun
Emmet County Transfer Station
Fourth graders toured the transfer station to learn how recycled materials are sorted, squished, and sent on to various factories to make old into new!
Sheridan's Boiler Room
Mr. Engler showed us all around the boiler room so we could see how the school burns fuel to provide heat and hot water for everyone.
Experimenting with Electricity
Marshmallow Towers
Students were challenged to build a tower with 20 strands of uncooked spaghetti, yarn, and tape. The tower had to support a marshmallow at its top. How high could they go?
